'Brethren of Purity: their philosophy and purpose' by Kurdish-Iraqi Professor Fuad Masum (PhD, Islamic Philosophy). A comprehensive work on the 'Ikhwan al-Safa', the secret society of Muslim philosophers in Iraq from the 3rd Century AH to 10th Century CE. Their purpose was the reconciliation of philosophy and Islam. The work introduces the 'Ikhwan al-Safa', looking at names, dates and authors of their epistles, then looks at the group's hierachy, and discusses in depth their epistles and doctrine. An excellent work.
