Translated to Arabic, «Oliver Twist» (1838) by the great English writer and social critic, Charles Dickens (1812-1870), This is a story of an orphaned boy, Oliver Twist, born in a workhouse, then sold into apprenticeship with an undertaker, where he receives brutal treatment. He escapes to London, and lives as a street child. The novel points out the hypocrisies of the time including child labor, living conditions of orphans and street children, recruitment of street children for criminal acts. Translated to Arabic by Samir Izzat Nassar.
