'Mice of My Mother Hissa', a novel by award-winning Kuwaiti author Sa'ud al-Sanusi. In a hypothetical time, the mice will bring a deadly scourge...as the plague spreads, oil prices collapse, civil war ignites...the story is symbolic of sectarian strife, invasions, and wars, that plague the region. It was banned in Kuwat after its release in 2015, but later allowed. Its events were prescient, such as the covid-19, the Saudi-Yemeni war, border closures, and other regional events.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Saud Al-Sanousi is a Kuwaiti novelist and journalist, born in 1981. His work has appeared in a number of Kuwaiti publications, including Al-Watan newspaper and Al-Arabi, Al-Kuwait and Al-Abwab magazines. He currently writes for Al-Qabas newspaper. His first novel THE PRISONER OF MIRRORS was published in 2010 and won the fourth Laila al-Othman Prize, a prestigious award for novels and short stories by young writers. He won the first prize for his story 'The Bonsai and the Old Man' in the Stories on the Air competition organised in July 2011 by the Al-Arabi magazine with BBC Arabic.

ما عادت الفئران تحومُ حول قفص الدجاجاتِ أسفل السِّدرة وحسب. تسلَّلت إلى البيوت. كنتُ أشمُّ رائحةً ترابية حامضة، لا أعرف مصدرها، إذا ما استلقيتُ على أرائك غرفة الجلوس. ورغم أني لم أشاهد فأرا داخل البيت قط، فإن أمي حِصَّه تؤكد، كلما أزاحت مساند الأرائك تكشف عن فضلاتٍ بنيةٍ داكنة تقارب حبَّات الرُّز حجما، تقول إنها الفئران.. ليس ضروريا أن تراها لكي تعرف أنها بيننا! أتذكَّر وعدها. أُذكِّرها: "متى تقولين لي قصة الفيران الأربعة؟". تفتعل انشغالا بتنظيف المكان. تجيب: "في الليل". يأتي الليل، مثل كلِّ ليل. تنزع طقم أسنانها. تتحدث في ظلام غرفتها. تُمهِّد للقصة: "زور ابن الزرزور، إللي عمره ما كذب ولا حلف زور..".
