'Sofia: A Collection of Stories'. This is a translation of short stories (Living, Loving and Lying Awake at Night, 1999), by the South African writer Sindiwe Magona (b. 1943). Some stories emphasize the diverse personalities of South African women working as domestic servants for whites. Other powerful stories, set during 1960-80s during Apartheid, can be depressing and heartbreaking.
