The reviser’s introduction initiates the book, where he mentions the history of registering the Qur’anic recitations in scrolls. He talks about the seven letters and their meanings and about the Imams of the recitations along with a biography of each. In addition, he acquaints the reader with the work of Imam al-‘Umani stating how much significant, unique and distinguished this book of his is when compare with other books in this field.

This book involves the eight recitations that the eight imams depended. They are Ibn Kathir, Nafi‘, Abu ‘Amr, ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Amir, ‘Asim, Hamzah, al-Kisa’i, and Ya‘qub Ibn Ishaq, the Imam of the people of Basrah, and he includes their references.

The author talks about the virtue of the Qur’anic intonation; the letters and their sources, titles and articulations; and about saying “I seek refuge in Allah” and “In the Name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful”. Then he divides his book into chapters: 1) The types of Idgham [diphthongization], 2) The types of Hamzah [a sounds], 3) types of tilting [imalah], and 4) The types of y sounds. He concludes with general chapters related to the reward of reciting the Holy Qur’an, the number of the Qur’anic Chapters [Surahs] and Verses [Ayat], Chapter initiations, the reason lying behind introducing the Qur’an with The Opening Chapter [Al-Fatihah] and the like.

The book involves extensive details of the aspects of the Recitations, how to be guided and the opinions of reciters and linguists about them. The manuscript is, therefore, a unique copy, which the reviser has found no counterpart of.
